PNZ Group acquires Arete Zero Carbon

Press Release

PNZ Group (Powering Net Zero), a Warrington-based group of net zero solutions businesses, has acquired Arete Zero Carbon, a carbon and sustainability consultancy.

This strategic acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, marks the third for the group and significantly enhances its ability to act as a comprehensive, end-to-end partner for organisations on the path to net zero.

Founded with investment from Arete Capital Partners, Arete Zero Carbon has helped businesses across the UK to measure, manage, and reduce their carbon emissions across both their direct operations and wider value chains.

Under the leadership of zero carbon expert, Dr Stephen Finnegan, the consultancy has enabled clients to futureproof their organisations, strengthen supply chain resilience, respond to growing regulatory and customer demands, and enhance long term environmental and commercial value.

Arete Zero Carbon has worked with clients across multiple sectors, including global technology companies – HP, TD Synnex, Westcoast, Exertis, CDW – leaders in the built environment – Knauf, Grosvenor, Seddon – government and not-for-profits – DESNZ, Keep Britain Tidy, HACT – legal firms – Hill Dickinson, ELU LLP – and major retail and hospitality brands – KFC, Princes Foods, Victorian Plumbing.

Now operating as PNZ Advisory, the consultancy joins PNZ Carbon and PNZ Energy under the PNZ Group umbrella.

The group brings together strategic advisory, clean energy infrastructure and access to verified carbon credits to support clients across their entire net zero journey.

As businesses face increasing pressure to decarbonise, PNZ Advisory will focus on delivering credible strategies and actionable plans that drive measurable impact across both operations and value chains.

The PNZ Group now includes more than 50 professionals across its advisory, energy, and carbon divisions and plans to scale its teams further over the next 12 months to meet growing demand for integrated decarbonisation solutions.

Martin Smith, CEO at PNZ Group, said:
“Bringing Arete Zero Carbon into the PNZ Group fills a critical gap in our proposition.
“Businesses need more than just technology or offsets, they need expert, strategic guidance to build and deliver credible decarbonisation plans.
“We now offer clients a complete solution that spans advice, action, and accountability. This is a major milestone in our mission to be the UK’s go-to net zero partner.”
Dr Stephen Finnegan, managing director at PNZ Advisory – formerly Arete Zero Carbon – said:
“Joining PNZ Group and becoming PNZ Advisory is a natural evolution in our mission to help businesses navigate their journey to net zero.
“With the combined expertise of PNZ Energy and PNZ Carbon, we can now offer clients a fully integrated solution, from strategy and advisory through to implementation and verified offsets, enabling us to deliver real, measurable climate impact at every stage.”
